In the only other U21 Cup game played last weekend, the Cell C Sharks registered a hard-fought 17-10 win over the Golden Lions on Friday afternoon in Durban, where the hosts scored two tries and a conversion, while their visiting opponents could only reply with solitary five-pointer.

In Cape Town, DHL WP led 22-7 at the break and scored eight tries, five conversions and a penalty goal, while the Free Staters replied with two tries and a conversion.

Interestingly, all eight of WP's tries were scored by different players. Flyhalf Jacques Rousseau was amongst the try scorers and he also added five conversions and a penalty goal for a personal tally of 18 points.

The other seven tries were scored by Keagan Blanckenberg (hooker), Romauld Ntumba (flanker), Paschal Ekeji (left wing), Meyr Retief (inside centre), Ebenezer Tshimanga (right wing), Lukhanyo Vokozela (replacement hooker) and Botshelo Kubyadi (replacement fullback).

Liyema Gaba (right wing) scored the Free Staters' two tries, one of which was converted by Tiaan Kriek (flyhalf).

The Cell C Sharks, playing at home on the Kings Park outer fields, turned their 7-3 halftime lead over the Golden Lions into a 17-10 win over the visitors from Johannesburg. KZN skipper and flyhalf Brandon Wilkie scored a try and a penalty goal, while inside centre Ethan Hooker also added a conversion.

Replacement hooker Ricardo Fourie grabbed a try for the Gauteng side while their Junior Bok scrumhalf Nico Steyn weighed win with the conversion and a penalty goal.

The Vodacom Bulls U21 side are still leading the log standings on 15 points as a result of their full house of points from their three games to date. DHL WP managed to close the gap to just one point following their comprehensive win over the Free Staters, although the Capetonians have played one more game.

The next round of matches are scheduled to take place on 23 and 24 September.

Meanwhile, the SA Rugby U21 Shield competition also had two games last weekend - the Griffons cemented their spot at the top of the log with a big 41-0 win over Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday morning (Junior Springbok fullback Dononvan Don scored 21 points through two tries, four conversions and a penalty goal), just before SWD were made to work very hard for a 28-25 win over EP in Despatch, where Francious van Rooyen scored two of the visitors' four tries.

The action continuqes this weekend when two matches will be staged in George and Brakpan respectively - SWD face Griquas on Friday from 15h30 at Outeniqua Park in George, while the Valke host Eastern Province at 14h00 in Brakpan on Saturday.
