The five-part documentary is the sequel to Chasing the Sun, the award-winning story of the Springboks’ journey to capture the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
The follow-up once again goes behind the dressing room door to give a unique insight into the campaign to retain the title despite facing the toughest ever route to the title put before any champion team.
The Boks recorded one-point victories in three successive knockout matches, requiring them to dig deeper than ever before, culminating in victory over New Zealand to become the first four-time winners.
Chasing the Sun 2 is about more than rugby however, touching the hearts of all South Africans and, much like the world champion Springboks, gives hope and inspiration to a country often required to triumph against the odds.
Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus said: “The people of South Africa were a real motivation for us during the World Cup and we really were playing for them.
“This documentary is one way we can give back to South Africa by sharing our experience from the inside, warts and all.
“We cannot wait to give South Africans insight into our journey to winning the title.”
The documentary is a co-production between SuperSport and SA Rugby and tells a story of pride and passion, diversity, and determination, of hope and humility, and, ultimately, resilience and perseverance.
SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha said: “The Springboks taught us so much about ourselves as South Africans, about believing in ourselves despite the odds and about what can be achieved when we are truly Stronger Together.
“To be able to bring the behind-the-scenes action to life for our passionate South African viewers is something we’re unbelievably proud of.
“If you thought Chasing the Sun was inspiring, Chasing the Sun 2 takes you through the rollercoaster of emotion, which culminates in one of greatest ever victories, against our greatest ever rugby rival: the All Blacks.”
Chasing the Sun 2 – proudly brought to screens by Toyota, Betway and Spur – will air on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and on SuperSport Grandstand (DStv channel 201) on Sunday, 24 March 2024.
