The Gauteng neighbours finished in first and second place on the league table and both progressed to the final after winning their semi-finals last Friday, with the Lions Lions defeating DHL Western Province 65-26 in a sparkling display of attacking rugby, while the Bulls were too strong for the Hollywoodbets Sharks.
The Lions started the first half in impressive form and led 33-7 already by the sound of the halftime whistle, however, they did not ease up and almost doubled their scoring in the second stanza to run in 10 tries overall whilst conceding four.
Playing at home in Pretoria, the young Bulls outfit had a far more challenging assignment against a determined Sharks team. The two teams were locked 5-5 at the interval with an unconverted try scored at each end.
After the break, the Bulls edged their coastal rivals by scoring four more tries.
The weekend results mean the Bulls are still unbeaten after they managed to storm to the top of the league table by winning all five regular games, one more than their Gauteng neighbours from Johannesburg.
Their form, as well as hosting the final at the Loftus Versfeld B-field, should give them the advantage, however, the Lions showed their class by dispatching easily of a very good WP side, so a very interesting contest is expected in decider, which is scheduled to kick off at 11h00 on Friday, 18 October.
