They first played in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in 1999 and were crowned champions in 2009, 2017, 2018 - the last two seasons marking a superb period for the team, which draw massive crowds at the annual HSBC Cape Town Sevens tournament played in the Mother City in December. They added a fourth World Series title in 2021 by winning two tournaments in Canada after the series was impacted due to COVID, and in 2022, they added a second Commonwealth Gold medal to their collection after also winning the tournament in 2014.
